Reflections on 2023 in the Correctional Exercise Equipment Market
In the wake of the global upheaval caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, 2023 emerged as a year that marked a return to normalcy. This was especially evident in the North American correctional market, which had undergone significant changes in response to the pandemic. As restrictions lifted, events returned to full capacity, and familiar purchasing behaviors resumed, it became clear that the past 2.5 years had left a noticeable void.
Here are some key takeaways from the North American correctional market in 2023:
The Resurgence of Tradeshows:
For the first time in recent memory, Outdoor-Fit participated in all three national correctional conferences and expos within the same calendar year. These included the American Jail Association (AJA) Conference & Expo in Omaha, NE, and the winter and summer American Correctional Association (ACA) Conference and Expo in Orlando, FL, and Philadelphia, PA, respectively. Compared to the previous year, attendance at each event saw a significant boost, with more exhibitors present. Notably, both organizations, AJA and ACA, actively encouraged in-person participation, signaling a departure from the virtual or safety measure-laden events of the past. Conversations with fellow exhibitors and attendees reflected a shared enthusiasm for the return of in-person interactions, underscoring the unique value of face-to-face connections.
Looking ahead to 2024, Outdoor-Fit is eager to participate in all three national shows again, beginning with ACA – Winter in Washington, DC, from January 4-7. We will be exhibiting in booth #531. Click here to view the floor plan.

Innovations in Correctional Fitness Equipment Offerings:
Correctional administrators, recreation supervisors, and superintendents expressed a keen interest in staying abreast of the latest products for their facilities. Whether it be advancements in security technology, healthcare solutions, or FF&E, there is a collective desire to explore new offerings that enhance efficiency and security within institutions. Outdoor-Fit and Corrections-Fit aim to meet this demand by continually innovating and introducing new outdoor exercise equipment products that promote inmate engagement and physical activity. Anticipate the unveiling of these innovations in 2024, as Outdoor-Fit remains committed to providing safe, durable, and legitimate outdoor correctional exercise equipment that contribute to the well-being of both inmates and staff.
Durability Remains Paramount:
Conversations throughout the past year have emphasized a consistent theme—durability is king. Facility managers prioritize products that withstand the test of time, regardless of the type or appeal of the item. The durability of prison gym equipment, in particular, has emerged as a focal point in decision-making processes. Outdoor-Fit has observed that inquiries about the longevity of their products and the materials used have become central to these conversations. The 15-year warranty and assurance of resilience against various conditions, such as snow or coastal climates, have resonated positively with correctional facility decision-makers. The enduring quality of prison gym equipment is now recognized as the cornerstone of choices made to enhance correctional facilities for both inmates and staff.
